PhonepayPlus release 0871 regulation

PhonepayPlus release 0871 regulation

13 Nov 2007

PhonepayPlus, the phone-paid services regulator (know formerly as ICSTIS), has today published a Statement of Application for 0871 numbers. The Statement of Application sets out how it proposes to apply its current Code of Practice to services offered on the 0871 number range. PhonepayPlus will assume regulatory responsibility for the range in the spring of 2008.

PhonepayPlus believes that its proposals will boost consumer confidence in the use of 0871 numbers by setting clear rules governing price transparency.

Within the statement it clarifies queue questions for current 0871 users:

  • Call Queuing will be permissible under the code.
  • Pricing information must be displayed wherever the number is in print and web based media. However if this cannot be changed a call announcement stating the cost to the caller is allowable.

Users of 0871 numbers will have 3 months from the introduction of the code to comply with its requirements.
