From its very inception, Alternative Networks has believed in the vital importance of its staff.
Because we are a service industry, we understand and recognise the value of each and every employee. Which is why invest so much in the training and development of our personnel. We want our staff to be productive, but we also want them to be happy and fulfilled. Which is why we’re delighted that management roles are filled by internal applicants in over 80% of cases – and 40% of people have been here for more than 4 years.
Our aim is simple – a rewarding role within an excellent environment.
The employee experience
Our policy at Alternative Networks is to create a positive, nurturing and progressive employee experience for each member of staff. We are committed to fostering a great working culture through:
- Providing structured professional development and career progression through our specialist in-house academy
- Offering a flexible financial and benefits package that encourages a healthy work/life balance and general well being
- Conducting team work and relationship building events and initiatives
- Encouraging individuals to take responsibility, get involved and make a difference
Equal opportunities and diversity
We aim to create a happy, harmonious working atmosphere, where talent is always rewarded. Working within the usual legal framework, we ensure that there is no discrimination against any person on the basis of race, colour, religion, nationality, ethnic origin, disability, sex, marital status, sexual orientation or age.
The environment and our community
It’s often supposed that there is a tension between what business demands and what is environmentally sound. Alternative Networks, however, does not believe that should be the case. We actively encourage employees to respect the environment, and have introduced a CSR Statement covering several environmental initiatives, including:
- Emphasising the importance of recycling paper, cans and plastic cups
- Introducing paperless billing and invoicing
- Reducing water and power consumption
- Home and remote working where applicable
- Encouraging greener commuting with our ride to work scheme
- Cutting the use of air travel where at all possible
Charity and community work
As a multi-site business, we believe that it’s best to forge links with local communities and charities, rather than focus on one national cause. We see this as much more than just an opportunity to give much needed financial assistance, and encourage our staff to volunteer to help these organisations as much as possible.
In order to do this, we run a specialist charity committee to oversee all of our community projects. They meet regularly to propose partner charities and run all charitable activity within Alternative Networks. We’ve made donations to support a wide variety of charities, including Willow Wood Hospice, Cancer Resource Centre, British Heart Foundation, Childline and DEC to name but a few.
