Company overview

Alternative Networks is a leading UK business communications service provider. We offer a fully converged communications portfolio including fixed line, mobile, voice, data and systems solutions. We have strong, strategic relationships with world-class suppliers such as BT, Verizon Business, Cable and Wireless, Mitel, Avaya, O2 and Vodafone. This allows us to offer an independent and technology leading service.

Our growth

Since our launch in 1994, we’ve seen consistent, profitable growth and in February 2005 we listed on the Alternative Investment Market. We’ve grown rapidly over the last 13 years and now employ over 430 people across four UK sites. In 2007 we reported pre-tax profits of £8.1 million on revenues of £72 million. Recent acquisitions have enhanced our size, scale and expertise and we’re in a great position to move forward and really make an impact in the telecoms market.

Our people

We have over 430 employees across offices London, Reading, Manchester and Leeds. As a service company we know that our people are vital to our business. We have a formal training and accreditation programme for all our staff which is run by our in-house Alternative Academy.

Our quality

Our two ISO accreditations show our commitment to providing the highest standards to our clients. Quality standard ISO 9001 shows that our business and processes are structured around delivering for our clients and demonstrates the smooth running of the business. More unusually we’re one of only about 300 companies to hold ISO 27001 (Information Security). We recognise the risks associated with the information we hold. This accreditation shows the confidentiality, integrity and availability of client and company information and proves that we have secure data and robust systems.

Our awards

Over the years, we’ve won numerous awards in a range of categories including:

  • National Customer Services Award 2007 - ‘Highly commended’ as Customer Service Team of the Year - Telecommunications and IT Services
  • Europe's 500 - Listed in 2006 Europe's 500 list for 3rd year running. Honours fastest growing businesses across Europe
  • Fast Track 100 - The UK’s fastest growing companies
  • Entrepreneur of the Year - James Murray won Young Entrepreneur of the Year in 2005 and was finalist 2004. Honours individuals who have built up strong, dynamic businesses
  • National Business Awards - Growth strategy of the year - Our continuous growth is built on a sensible, structured business plan
