REQUIRED BUSINESS OUTCOME
The London Borough of Hounslow Council's (LBH) I.T. offering services some 2,600 users with hundreds of different applications - both on site at its Civic Centre HQ and remotely. As part of a strategic vision, the London Borough of Hounslow needed to transform the way their partners and users accessed their applications and data, whilst also addressing user identity, document management, file sharing and collaboration needs. A key requirement was to implement a solution that would enable users to work flexibly, such as at home or remotely in other locations.
Designed with Hounslow
Alternative worked with London Borough of Hounslow to replace their ageing traditional desktop based desktop application delivery environment and a legacy Citrix farm, with an upgraded centralised solution based on Citrix XenApp and Microsoft SCCM. In addition Microsoft App-V 5.0 was introduced to virtualise the applications making them easy to deploy and manage. This new solution is centralised, scalable, and resilient, providing a consistent seamless end user experience, with reduced management overhead.
Control through Visibility
With Citrix XenMobile deployed to LBH’s IT team, they are always able to view and control the status of the Citrix farm direct from their mobile devices giving them the ability to respond to issues and/or enquiries much quicker than before.
“Through the IMPACT methodology the Alternative team provided in-depth knowledge of the available solutions. A cost effective and resilient design was developed and a successful implementation was delivered. Hounslow now has a new secure virtual desktop which provides flexible working options and enables the organisation to deliver more with fewer resources. Furthermore the solution delivers savings through a reduction in the overheads associated with traditional desktop management. We look forward to working with the Alternative team to deliver our future strategic objectives.” Andrew Connor, Technology Manager, LBH
End to end accountability
Using Alternative’s 7 step IMPACT methodology Alternative Consultants were involved in all stages; from project definition, analysis and design through to building, testing, deploying and managing the environment. Training, handover and full documentation were provided to ensure Hounslow’s IT team were fully capable of managing and supporting the environment once the project finished.
As a result of engaging with Alternative Professional Services, the London Borough of Hounslow now has a robust end user computing environment that allows its users to be more productive while working flexibly. The solution has reduced total cost of ownership, while also enabling the London Borough of Hounslow future cloud based strategy.
