Alternative’s first Healthcare Communications Seminar took place last week. With several trusts in attendance, the event successfully demonstrated the wealth of technological advances that dramatically improve patient care whilst reducing costs.
Telecommunications is increasingly important for all sectors of the healthcare industry, and Alternative invited some of the key manufacturers and suppliers to present their latest products and services.
Mitel began by explaining how IP Systems can deliver improved patient care, while lowering expenditure at the same time. Trapeze Networks covered how secure wireless networks can revolutionise patient care, while BlackBerry described how they use their mobile platform to roll out bespoke healthcare applications.
From Alternative, Justin Collins (Director of Products and Development) illustrated how to use multiproduct and composite deals to enable healthcare trusts to invest in infrastructure upgrades without capital expenditure. And from AKJ – a subsidiary of Alternative – Matt Atkinson offered insights into how trusts can enjoy ongoing savings which go beyond just keeping unit costs low.
Hot topics which gave real food for thought included:
- The power of virtualisation – adding Mitel software to virtual machines
- Wireless technology improving efficiency, by assisting with information transfer and storage, asset management, equipment servicing and stock control in particular.
- Bespoke BlackBerry solutions that improve security whilst giving clinical staff immediate access to the information they need.
- Case studies portraying the real benefits that technology has afforded trusts – in particular Alternative dramatically reducing the cost of an infrastructure upgrade for a healthcare client in East London and saving a six figure sum when it comes to their ongoing costs.
