Remote working works in the North!

23 Apr 2009

The first of Alternative Networks’ Remote Working Works! events to be staged outside of London took place on Wednesday 22nd April in the luxurious setting of Manchester’s Hilton Hotel. A more intimate affair than previous events, it was nonetheless very enthusiastically attended, and perhaps – according to co-organiser Shajna Boksh – the best of the three.

“The fact that there were fewer people meant that there was a little more time to really explore all the issues regarding remote working,” she said. “It was great to be able to talk to so many different people, and the product demonstrations in the executive bar went down really well.”

David Lennan from Business HR and Roger Jones from Avaya – veterans of the first two events – both made fascinating presentations. David concentrated on the new government legislation regarding flexible working practices, while Roger offered a witty and informative look at the future of remote working. Another mainstay of the event, Mark Patterson from charity ActionAid, provided another impressive demonstration of remote working in action. Finally, Justin Collins – Alternative Networks’ Director of Product and Development – provided the view according to Alternative Networks, before the seminar moved up to the 23rd Floor

“It was a beautiful day,” said Jevin Mercer-Tod, Alternative Networks’ co-organiser, “and the views across Manchester were just stunning. It’s a good job that the product demonstration were as good as they were otherwise I think we’d have all been looking out of the windows!”

With a variety of experts from Alternative Networks, RIM, Vodafone and O2, there was something for every interested party. As the sunshine poured through the windows, a buffet lunch and refreshments were served. “It was a fitting end to very enjoyable and very productive day,” Shajna said.
