Lower your power spend
19 Jan 2009
As all companies look to tighten their expenditure, it’s well worth looking at the power consumption of all your systems – especially your telecoms. It’s here that unnecessary expenditure can really eat into your bottom line and make you far less efficient than you might expect.
Independent testing firm, The Tolly Group, recently ran a series of evaluations of the energy requirements of various systems. They used a variety of different business sizes in order to get a clear picture of the cost of ownership of a variety of solutions, including the Mitel 3300 IP Communications Platform (ICP) and a selection of Mitel IP phones.
The Tolly Group found that the Mitel Unified Communications Solutions require as little as 3,885 watts to support IP controllers and phones across a large 1,500-user network; 1,237 watts for a multi-site medium 350-employee network; and just 181 watts to support a small 65-user office. But what do these numbers mean to the average business?
Essentially, these numbers translated into cost reductions for customers. Compared to some other products on the market, Mitel’s solution used 62% less power than its rivals. Their mid-level handsets also consume significantly less power than comparable phones – 2.4 watts versus anywhere from 3.1 to 6.0 watts or higher – making their systems highly desirable.
"Mitel factors both power consumption and environmental sustainability into the functional design of its products," said Jim Davies, chief technology officer, Mitel. "Not only do our solutions help customers decrease their environmental impact but the cost savings they receive from reduced power consumption goes directly to the bottom line."
