New BlackBerry 8220
01 Dec 2008
RIM, the company behind the BlackBerry, must be working some serious overtime. The new BlackBerry 8220 is the third new device to launch this autumn. And while it hasn’t had the hype and fanfare of the Storm or the Bold, the 8220 is a very capable, and very impressive smartphone.
The first thing you notice is the clamshell design – the first ever from BlackBerry. It makes for a very stylish, handsome device that could sit comfortably in any mobile phone fashion parade. But it’s not just the chic appearance that’s impressive about the 8220: it might look the business, but it’s also a phone designed for business.
Featuring WiFi, Bluetooth and a full HTML browser, the 8220 has a Suretype keyboard, and a well-designed trackball. Not only that, but it has a document viewer to help read Word, Excel and PowerPoint files – making it ideal for busy people on the move. Add to that a 2 megapixel camera and a 1GB MicroSD card, and you’re looking at phone with the right functionality at the right price.
It’s not as technologically advanced at the Bold or the Storm, but as a replacement for the Pearl series, it is very hard to fault. For people who want the advantages of mobile email, without all the high level functions of other BlackBerrys, the 8220 is absolutely perfect.
